Castel del Monte

The Puglia region

In accordance with its historical role as a great crossroads for many different cultures, Apulia is a treasure-house of art and culture. The region could be described as one great archaeological site, with its dolmens, its traces of forgotten cities, and abandoned medieval villages.

The Coast

The coast of the Gargano and of the Salento near Otranto are high and rocky, while the coastal section of the Murgia and some parts of the peninsula of Salento are rocky, yet low. Wide stretches of sand can be found in some parts of the Salento, north of the Gargano, along the Gulf of Taranto, and in the Gulf of Manfredonia.
There are also few islands in the region: The Tremiti, north of the Gargano; the Pedagne, facing the port of Brindisi, the isles of Saint’Andrea, in the Gallipoli area.
